Kingswells Bucksburn Link

Kingswells Bucksburn Path Link. Public Consultation (01/09/08 - 10/10/08).

For a number of years ACC has received representations from the communities of Bucksburn and Kingswells requesting the creation of a link between the two areas for non-motorised users. The Neighbourhood Community Action Plans for both Kingswells and Bucksburn, developed following extensive public consultation, identify a need for better walking and cycling links between the two communities. 

Last year ACC began to consult key stakeholders on the possibility of providing a new or improved path between Kingswells and Bucksburn. One of the main reasons this path is sought after is so that children from Kingswells, who are zoned to the forthcoming Bucksburn Academy, will be able to cycle to school. 

The information gathered so far has been used to identify two possible route options. ACC would now like to hear the wider community’s opinions on these, and other issues concerning the path, to ensure any new route is something which people want and will use.

Route Evaluation Study

The route evaluation study was prepared following initial consultation with stakeholders and helped to generate the 2 options that are being consulted on now.  Download a copy of the Route Evaluation Study, Figure 1, Figure 2 and Figure 3.

Corridor Option Facts

Option 1 – is a completely new path following alongside the Newhills road.

  • 2.7km long
  • Bucksburn to Kingswells 65m total climb
  • Kingswells to Bucksburn 20m total climb
  • The new path would pass mainly through farmland adjacent to the road crossing a number of farm access roads and small burns.

Option 2 – is a mixture of new and upgraded existing paths crossing farmland.

  • 2km long
  • Bucksburn to Kingswells 40m total climb
  • Kingswells to Bucksburn 10m total climb
  • The new path would cross the Bucks Burn and pass through farmland and community woodland.

The plans will also be on display in The Kingswells Community Centre, and The Beacon Community Centre, Bucksburn between Monday 1 September and Friday 10 October 2008. Questionnaire forms and a post box will be on-site.
