Summer Festival 2017

Some exciting events are coming to Aberdeen this year including a cycle tour and a half marathon. This year we have planned our most exciting events calendar yet!

  • National Theatre of Scotland - 'The 306: Day' - Friday 26 May 2017

    Venue: Town & County Hall, Town House, Broad Street, Aberdeen AB10 1AQ
    Tickets: £14/12 concessions inc booking fee

    Aberdeen's historic Town and County Hall is set to become as unusual venue when the National Theatre of Scotland stop in Aberdeen for one night only next month. The medieval style of the room will provide an atmospheric backdrop to a new play inspired by real events and first-hand accounts and follows the lives of three ordinary women fighting to be heard above the clamour of World War 1.   • The Tour Series 2017 - Thursday 25 May, City Centre

    We are absolutely thrilled that the Cycle Tour Series is coming to Aberdeen as part of a UK ten date showcase over a three-week period. Up to 50 elite riders, including the likes of Olympic Champion Ed Clancy MBE, will tackle an hour-long race around the city centre. For more details visit www.tourseries.co.uk/home

  • Aberdeen's Highland Games -  Sunday 18 June (Father's Day), Hazlehead Park

    Tickets will be available to buy online in advance soon. Aberdeen's Highland Games offer a range of competitive challenges with tug o' war championships, heavy and light events (athletic events), fine displays of dancing, traditional pipe bands and solo piping competitions and family-friendly activities.

  • Armed Forces Day, 11am, Saturday 24 June, Union Street

    Watch the impressive parade of serving military men and women, veteran associations, cadet and youth organisations accompanied by local pipe bands march down Union Street, finishing at the Castlegate.

  • Silver City Stories Monday 26 June – Sunday 2 July, various city centre locations, FREE

    Silver City Stories is a cultural festival which celebrates Aberdeen's history and heritage. Monday 26 – Friday 30 June will see a fringe programme then from Friday 30 – Sunday 2 July larger events will include pop-up opera, a medieval mystery fair, a series of performances and workshops celebrating the North East's storytelling traditions and a weekend of immersive children's activities. Exhibitions like an outdoor display of historic buses are sure to be popular.

  • BP Big Screen 'La traviata' –Tuesday 4 July, Duthie Park FREE

    Enjoy a free performance of this popular opera broadcast live from the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden. La traviata combines drama, profound emotion and wonderful melody at Duthie Park. Times and further details to follow. http://www.roh.org.uk/about/bp-big-screens

  • Celebrate Aberdeen Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 August,
    Union Street and Union Terrace Gardens FREE

    Organised by a team of volunteers, Celebrate Aberdeen returns to the Granite City once again to highlight community spirit, volunteering and civic pride. Previous years have included colourful parades along Union Street and live entertainment in Union Terrace Gardens. https://celebrateaberdeen.org/

  • Great Aberdeen Run - Sunday 27 August, City Centre

    Have your trainers at the ready as runners from across Scotland will flock to the city to take part in the first ever Great Aberdeen Run. The run includes a half marathon, 10k and a family mile. So whether you are an experienced runner or a bit of a novice looking to raise money for charity the Great Aberdeen Run has something for everyone.

About the City Events Team

The City Events team are responsible for the planning, co-ordination and delivery of the Council's annual Festivals and Events programme within the City of Aberdeen.  They also offer support and advice to a wide variety of other events organised within the City.

The team are able to provide help and advice on all aspects of event management and can offer support for your event by attending any planning and/or site meetings (this may incur a charge). Details of how the City Events Team can assist with your event can be found at Planning an Event
