Sailing
You can learn to sail using dinghies from a very early age and it is an accessible sport suitable for a wide range of abilities. We have several different types of boats suitable for beginner to intermediate sailing.
Dinghy sailing is the activity of sailing a small craft on relatively sheltered waters. It involves the crew catching the wind to steer a course as efficiently and smoothly as possible whilst avoiding other craft. This activity can increase co-ordination and skill, as well as teaching candidate's navigation and seamanship. It will also give participants a better understanding of the powerful interaction between wind and water.
The Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area has a number of sites for dinghy sailing activities. The rugged North-East coast is not best suited for novice and intermediate training as it can be very exposed to the elements. However, there are inland and sheltered venues that can be used, such as the Loch of Skene, Stonehaven Harbour and Peterhead Lido.
