Kayaking is a challenging paddle sport which takes place in a variety of locations to suit experience and skill levels. From flat sheltered water, lochs and reservoirs, to the bouncy rapids of the Dee and Don rivers.

Kayaking is an excellent activity for introducing and developing a new set of skills in a fun and active way. There are many group elements involved in kayaking, which can create opportunities to develop teamwork, organisation and leadership skills. As an Olympic sport it can be developed into competition slalom and speed paddling events.

Aberdeen and the North-East provide a variety of kayaking sites on many different water types. The rivers offer every grade of kayaking from gentle sheltered water to steep white water rapids, whilst lochs and lochans offer sheltered and safe locations for novices.
