Intelligent Transport Systems Unit

Details

Aberdeen’s Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Unit is responsible for maintaining all the city’s traffic signals, pedestrian crossings and variable message signs.  There are more than 270 sets of traffic signals in the city, including pelican and puffin signal crossings, working 24hrs a day, 365 day a year to help reduce road traffic accidents.  They also control traffic queues, delays and congestion on the road network.

Faults do occur from time to time and can range from individual lamps not working to all the lamps not working, damage from road traffic accidents and vandalism.  Inappropriate ‘green time’ faults (eg. green times too short) are more difficult to rectify as they may be due to congestion and not an equipment failure.  In this case the ITS Unit will carry out a check to discover what the problem is.

If you wish to report a faulty or broken traffic light please contact us.  Please remember to tell us the precise location of the faulty signal site (eg. the name of the main road and the nearest side road or specific building), the date and time, and as much information as possible about the fault.

The ITS Unit is also responsible for maintenance of the Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) system. These are the electronic displays mounted in bus shelters to predict the arrival of bus services.  To report a fault with any of these displays please contact us quoting the location of the faulty display with as much information as possible about the fault.
