Ducklings - Syllabus

Tadpoles, Frogs, Ducklings, Otters and Sharks

Learning to swim is like a duck to water!

These classes precede the Aqua 1-5 programme and give an excellent opportunity for young children to gain water confidence and learn early practices prior  to embarking on the main programme.  Children who have achieved the objectives in the shark syllabus usually feed into Aqua 1A or Aqua 2

Ducklings - Syllabus - Adults and Child age 2 1/2 - 3 1/2

Learning to use those legs

Children learn by communication between the teacher and child. However the adult participates in the class to reinforce instruction and to support the child in the water. Syllabus items covered in the Ducklings level are:

  • Safe Entries and Exits
  • Confidence building exercises and independence activities
  • Water familiarisation

Streamlining skills

  • Introduce and develop floatation skills and learning to regain standing 
  • Introduce and develop towing skills
  • Introduce recognised supports
  • Rotation Skills
  • Introduce and develop submersion skills
  • Progressive practices for all four strokes in leg and arm actions
  • Breath Control
  • Introduce basic sculling skills
  • Develop use of aids
