Competitive Swimming Clubs
There are 6 junior swimming clubs across the city who are members of the City of Aberdeen Swim Team (COAST). COAST is the councils elite programme and relies on swimmers coming through from the junior clubs on a regular basis.
Competitive swimming is a sport which requires commitment. When your child completes Aqua 5 the next level is Junior Coaching 1. The squad members are required to attend 2 or 3 sessions per week.
If your child progresses into a swimming club the competition events begin at the age of 8 with local mini meets and novice galas. These are fun events and introduce the swimmer to the excitement of a swimming gala.
Not all swimmers wish to commit themselves to many hours of training and most clubs have a section for swimmers who wish to train fewer sessions for enjoyment and fitness or to compete on a limited basis in order to fit in with other activities that they may participate in.
Overleaf are the contact telephone numbers for the junior swimming clubs, which are correct as at June 2006. These contacts change quite frequently according to when the clubs hold their Annual General Meeting so it is sometimes difficult to keep up to date. Should you find that this information is not correct the previous secretary should be able to give you the information or if not please contact the Swimming Development Officer on 01224 814783 who will endeavour to find out the correct information for you.
