Grants and other support for sports activities
Details
The following is a list of agencies and organisations which may be in a position to offer grant aid and other support for sports clubs/associations and talented sports persons.
The level and type of support offered varies between each key funding stream as do the timescales for application submission. It should be borne in mind that many of these streams consider grant disbursements only on an annual basis and those submissions may require to be made well in advance.
Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that the contact information provided is accurate, these may change over time, particularly in the case of volunteer organisations.
Local
1. Aberdeen Sports Council
Local umbrella organisation supporting and representing the interests of sports clubs and associations. The Council is able to offer limited financial support for individual projects and talented individuals meeting specific criteria itself but can provide advice and guidance on wider funding issues.

2. Chris Anderson Trust
The purpose of the Trust is to assist the development of sporting talent in young persons who are under the age of 18 (or in exceptional circumstances, 21 years) who are resident in the North East and who would be unable to develop their talent fully without such assistance.

3. Aberdeenshire Sports Council
Aberdeenshire Sports Council is a grant aiding body, offering a range of grants to affiliated clubs, organisations and individuals.
Categories of grant include talented athletes, club starter, coaching/officiating, hosting prestigious events, travel and development initiatives.

5 Sportsmatch
Co-ordinate by sportscotland and funded by the Scottish Executive, Sportsmatch is an award scheme which partners businesses of all shapes and sizes sponsoring a wide variety of community sports projects all over Scotland. Any properly constituted nonprofit distributing sports organisation is eligible to apply (including sports clubs, local authorities, schools, charities and voluntary youth associations). As a sponsor, any profit-distributing business with a trading or operations presence in Great Britain is eligible to apply.

6 Awards for All
Awards for All is a small lottery grants scheme, run jointly by the Community Fund,sportscotland, the Scottish Arts Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund. Awards for All gives groups a quick, easy way to access small lottery grants of between £500 and £5,000 for a wide range of community, arts, sports, heritage, health, education and environmental projects. Funds are available for work which brings people together, improves quality of life, increases involvement and helps groups to become well organised.

7. The Foundation for Sport and the Arts
The Foundation for Sport and the Arts was established in 1991 and channel money donated by Littlewoods Gaming to a wide range of sporting and artistic causes. Since1991 the Foundation has awarded grants worth over £350 million.
Its goal is to increase active participation in sport and the arts, especially amongst young people and those with more ability than resources. A wide range of activities are supported where there is clear beneficial impact across the community. The Foundations particular goal at this time is to encourage active participation by young people. Apart from professional football and horse racing, most socially inclusive sport is considered. Support for the arts covers the widest spectrum of activity.

8. Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme
The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme, or TASS as it is better known, is a
Government funded programmed that represents a unique partnership between sport and higher and further education. The programme awards Scholarships and Bursars to talented athletes that are committed to combining their sport and education. It aims to reduce the drop out of talented athletes from sport and supports and develops the talent of today for sporting success in the future.

9. Sport Relief
A joint initiative between Comic Relief and BBC, the programme aims to support projects which use sport, activities and games to work with young people up to the age of 25 to tackle tensions and division within their local communities. They will fund voluntary organisations and self-help groups throughout parts of the UK. There are two stages to the application process.

10. SportsAid
Through the help of individual donors, corporate partners and other grant-giving trusts, SportsAid is able to work with the National Governing Bodies of Sport to identify young athletes and help them to achieve their sporting potential. The charity directly funds youngsters in British sport through initiatives including events, partnerships and the SportsAid Alumni scheme.

11. Scottish Sports Aid Foundation
Aims to encourage the development of younger sports people who are showing potential or are currently competing at championship or international level (Scotland/UK).Applicants are eligible for only one grant in any twelve-month period.

12. Sport Governing Bodies
Sports Governing Bodies provide financial, advice and infrastructure support for sportspersons and projects involved in a particular activity or sport. Details of Scottish and British Sports Governing Bodies are available through the sportscotland website. (See above)
