The aim of Social Work is to promote social welfare and to support the informal care provided by families, neighbours and the community in general. Social Work is responsible for the provision of a wide range of services and resources to many people. These services are provided in public offices, their own homes, in day centres or in residential establishments. We have a duty to protect vulnerable people from abuse or neglect and to promote voluntary and self-help activities. We provide a service to a wide range of people:
- Older People
- People with Learning or Physical Disabilities
- Children and young people in the community or in residential care
- People in Hospital
- People with Mental Health Problems
- People with alcohol abuse and/or substance abuse problems

- People seeking advice about Welfare Rights
Some services are free while for others there may be a charge depending on your particular circumstances. Information on our Charging Policy and is available on this site. Health services, carers, voluntary organisations, the private sector and volunteers all complement the work which is carried out by Social Work.
