Education
A primary school education programme was an important feature of the Project and was enjoyed by over 600 pupils across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
The programme encouraged young people to explore the Project's themes through 'hands-on' science, archaeology and drama.
After a tour of the 'Privies and Other Filthiness...' exhibition, a visiting class was transported back through drama into late 13th century Aberdeen. Here, pupils experienced the environment of medieval Aberdeen first hand and helped a wounded supporter of William Wallace.
Pupils also excavated a pit full of medieval remains and by examining the microscopic evidence and artefacts contained within it, deduced the original use of the pit. The cess-pit was a particularly rewarding discovery!
It is hoped that soon, the award-winning 'Step into Medieval Aberdeen' project, which between 1992 and 1998 interpreted Aberdeen's past for school pupils through hands-on excavation and drama, will re-open at a new location.
