Welcome to Europe Direct Aberdeen – Serving the North East


This is a newly established information relay located in the Central Library Information Centre,  (Central Library Map Location) Aberdeen. We are one of over 400 Europe Direct Centres spread throughout the European Union which make up the official network of European Commission information relays.

What is Europe Direct?
If you have a question about Europe, then we can help you find an answer. Europe Direct is a general information service, providing information on matters related to Europe and the European Union. For more complex questions, we can direct you to relevant specialist information services.
The main objectives of the Europe Direct network are to -

  • Enable local citizens to obtain information, advice, assistance and answers to questions about the European Union’s institutions, legislation, policies, programmes and funding opportunities
  • Actively promote local and regional debate about the European Union and its policies
  • Allow the European institutions to improve the dissemination of information tailored to local and regional needs
  • Give the public the opportunity to send feedback to the European Union institutions in the form of questions, opinions and suggestions.

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

If you are a UK resident & are a holder of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), you may be entitled to medical treatment that becomes necessary, at reduced cost or sometimes free, when temporarily visiting a European Union (EU) country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. Euraxess
The European Commission has launched a new website for researchers. EURAXESS - Researchers in motion will provide researchers with easy access to information in four main areas:

  • EURAXESS Services: information for mobile researchers
  • EURAXESS Jobs: on-line researchers's vacancies and funding opportunities
  • EURAXESS Rights: European Researchers' Charter and Code implementation
  • EURAXESS Links: networking of European researchers abroad and third-country researchers in Europe

A free one-stop-shop listing research jobs and funding opportunities in Europe.
Researchers: search for up-to-date vacancies and post your CVs.

"Working for Nature - Nature for Working"
In the framework of its project ' Working for Nature - Nature for Working ', EUROPARC Federation - the umbrella organisation of Europe's protected areas - launched the first European platform for internships in the field of nature conservation and management of protected areas. The aim of the project is to support young people with an interest in nature conservation and protected area management.

Working for Nature  A user-friendly and multilingual platform was created in October 2007 for internships available in the field of nature conservation in Europe.
