Landlord Training Events May 2007

During May 2007 Aberdeen City Council, in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council’s Letwise team organised four landlord training events in the City.

Letwise already have a well established landlord training programme, and offered their support and experience to assist us with this venture.

In order to allow as many landlords as possible to attend the events two sessions were organised for both days. All of the training sessions were very well attended and received.  In total 157 landlords attended the training events.

The training sessions were provided by Andrew Cowan from TC Young Solicitors  (www.tcyoung.co.uk).  Andrew has been providing training courses on Tenancy Agreements and Recovery of Possession on behalf of Letwise for the past two and a half years.

Tenancy Agreement Sessions – 3rd May 2007

Aims

The aim of these sessions was to make landlords aware of the key elements to be included in tenancy agreements and to help identify good practice issues when creating assured and short assured tenancies.

Objectives

The objectives were to ensure that by the end of the session delegates were:

  • aware of the legal requirements and pitfalls in creating assured and short assured tenancies
  • aware of unfair contract terms in leases and how to avoid these;
  • aware of the legal rights and obligations of landlords and tenants;
  • able to understand what action can be taken against tenants if things go wrong; and
  • aware of what could be construed as harassment.
