Information on Adoption - What’s involved?
Once you have decided that you are interested in learning more about adoption you will be invited and expected to attend group preparation and training sessions.
This training is where you will receive more information about adoption, with a current adopter and foster carer assisting social work staff to run the group. Sharing your experiences, and hearing more about the children who need to be adopted should build on your current parenting and communication skills.
This will help you to develop an understanding of how a child's early life experiences may impact upon their overall development. This should help to prepare you to look after a child who has been cared for by the local authority, and help you understand how this may differ from raising your own child. The group will provide information about all aspects of adoption and the needs of children for whom adoption is sought.
