'Build a Bug' Schools Competition
As part of a health promotion strategy to help increase primary school children awareness of food poisoning bugs, Environmental Health Officers at Aberdeen City Council invited all primary schools within the City to enter a Build a Bug competition, with a chance to win £250 to help fund education in food safety related topics.
P5 pupils were asked to design and build a model showing what they thought a food bug would look like if it could be enlarged and seen by the human eye.
Pupils also had to provide:
- A name for the bug,
- where the bug lives,
- what illness the bug can cause; and
- how the bug can be controlled to prevent illness
The competition entries were judged by Mr Allan Whyte, Head of Service, Shelter and Environment. We were very impressed by the imagination and technical details shown in all entries, the competition was very tough!
Thank you to all schools who took part in the competition and well done to the winners Danestone Primary, and runners up Ashley Road School and Bramble Brae School.
Photos of the other entries can be seen below.
