Tartan Day Photo Gallery
Glorious sunshine and a packed programme of fun activities brought an estimated 70,000 visitors into Aberdeen's City Centre on Saturday (August 5) for the city's Tartan Day.
The start of Tartan Day was heralded at noon with a massed pipe band marching from Albyn Place to Castlegate, with Lord Provost John Reynolds taking the salute at the Town House.
Other highlights throughout the day included:
- Tours of the Town House Charter Room, taking place throughout the day as part of a Family History Fair in the Town and County Hall
- A celebration of all things Doric in the Doric Tent at St Nicholas Kirkyard, featuring Torry Quine Joyce Falconer (Roisin from River City), Sheena Blackhall, Stanley Robertson, and Maggie Fraser
- A re-enactment of the coronation of Robert the Bruce featuring a horseback parade from Back Wynd to the Castlegate where the ceremony took place
- A chance to visit historic Kirk of St Nicholas to watch the archaeological dig taking place there
The ever-popular Country Fair on Belmont Street proved to be a big hit, while visitors to The Academy shopping centre nearby enjoyed Scottish folk/rock from The Picts.
Elsewhere, entertainment was provided by Aberdeen Gaelic Choir, fiddle group Carley Williams and Co, Rhona Lawrence and Fiona Fotheringhams Highland dancers, Marie Main on the clarsach, Aberdeen Strathspey and Reel Society, traditional Scottish music from PLAID and fiddler Paul Anderson.
