Proposed Scottish Parliamentary Constituency Boundaries
Details
Background
Aberdeen City Council has agreed to go out for public consultation with a number of organisations in the City in relation to proposed Scottish Parliamentary Constituency Boundaries.
The Boundary Commission for Scotland published proposed Scottish Parliamentary Constituency Boundaries for Aberdeen City and asked that the Council consider submitting an appropriate response to them in relation to these proposals. These proposals were considered by the Policy and Strategy Committee at its meeting on 4th March, 2008, by the Electoral Boundaries Task Group at their meetings on 20th May and 27th June, 2008, and the Urgent Business Committee at its meeting on 4th July, 2008. The outcome of these meetings is that the Council has agreed to consult on three different proposals in relation to the boundaries.
Proposals
The three different options are as follows:-
(1) the original Boundary Commission for Scotland proposals can be viewed at the following address: www.bcomm-scotland.gov.uk
(2) proposals drawn up by the Electoral Registration Officer - this proposal adheres to the original decision by the Policy and Strategy Committee that the three constituencies for Aberdeen City be within the City boundaries.

- Scottish Parliamentary Boundaries Map - Electoral Registration Office
(3) an alternative proposal put forward by a member of Aberdeen Civic Forum who had been co-opted onto the Electoral Boundaries Task Group. This proposal does not adhere to the Policy and Strategy Committee criteria, however, the proposal does provide better parity and retains the inclusion of North Kincardine within an Aberdeen South seat. It was agreed by the Urgent Business Committee on 4th July, 2008, that this option be put forward for public consultation.
