Pete Leonard - Corporate Director, Neighbourhood Services (Central Area)

Pete_LeonardOriginally from Newcastle under Lyme, Pete Leonard first came to Aberdeen in September 1986 to work as an electrical engineer for North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board (The Hydro).  During his time there, Pete encountered many changes - including privatisation, the introduction of open competition, contracting out services and a merger to form a new company. Following several management positions, Pete became Operations Manager for the North East of Scotland.

In February 2005, he joined the Council as Head of Shelter & Environment within Neighbourhood Services (North Area). He was initially struck by colleagues’ high level of dedication but also sensed frustration brought about by barriers and resistance to change. As Head of Service, Pete was at the forefront of leading improvements in efficiency and productivity in service delivery.

As a Director, he continues to encourage people to build on their strengths – and is a lead figure in the implementation of change.  He champions quality and customer service and has a no-nonsense approach to improving effectiveness and minimising waste.
