Draft Subdivision of Residential Curtilages Guidelines

At its meeting of 16 August 2007, Aberdeen City Council’s Planning Committee approved Draft Supplementary Guidance on the Sub-Division and Redevelopment of Residential Curtilages for the purposes of a 6 week public consultation exercise. The intention is that the document will be approved as Supplementary Planning Guidance to the Aberdeen City Local Plan.

The City Council adopted its existing guidance for the Splitting of Residential Feus in 1991 and for the last 16 years this document has been extremely valuable in providing guidance in the determination of planning applications. However, it does not respond to the intensity and character of recent development pressures (eg the tendency towards redevelopment rather than curtilage splitting) or take into account the up to date policy context of the Finalised Local Plan or national planning policy guidance. Hence the need for a comprehensive review and re-drafting of the guidance.

The Draft Supplementary Guidance on the Sub-Division and Redevelopment of Residential Curtilages and the associated Committee report are available online here:

Copies are also available to be viewed at the Central Library, Rosemount Viaduct and at Planning and Infrastructure reception on the 8th floor of St Nicholas House, Broad Street, Aberdeen.
