The Environment Strategy
Part of the Council's Corporate Strategy is the Environment Strategy. The Council's Environment Strategy is based on the principles of sustainability.
The objectives of the Environment Strategy are to:
- Promote efficient use of resources
- Improve communications and accessibility
- Protect and enhance the environment
- Manage development requirements
- Promote environmental awareness
There are eight priority areas for the Environment Strategy and actions are currently being undertaken in each of these areas.
The eight priorities are:
- The Urban Environment
- Energy
- Transportation
- Waste Resources
- Biodiversity, Countryside, Coast and Open Space
- Business and the Environment
- Community and the Environment
- Environmental Education

In June 2004 the Council approved an Environmental Management Policy Statement. The Policy covers the Council’s operations, with the aim to improve our own in-house environmental performance on which we have direct control. The Environment Strategy which is separate, covers our work to improve the wider environment of Aberdeen.

State of the Environment report
The 2007 State of the Environment Summary Report and the 2007 State of the Environment Technical Report looks at Aberdeen's environment and how it impacts on local residents. Compiled to reflect key indicators for the health of our environment and the people of Aberdeen it provides an interesting insight and baseline for measuring progress to improve the environment.
The first State of the Environmental Report was published in 2002.
