Genealogy and Family Research
Situated in Aberdeen Registrar's Office, the Search Room, also known as 'the Safe', was purpose-built in the early 1970's as an 'Area Repository' to house the birth, death and marriage registers for the counties of Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire, in addition to those already held for the City of Aberdeen. The registers are housed on shelves around all four walls of the Search Room.
The Search Room is staffed by a Search Supervisor, who supervises the handling and conservation of the registers, assists new researchers and deals with family history inquiries at the public counter and by mail.
