Local Housing Allowance
Details
As part of the government's reform of housing benefit the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) was put in place from 7 April 2008.
Entitlement to benefit will be based on the size of accommodation people need and the location.
If the rent they are charged is less than the allowance entitlement then tenants will be able to keep the difference up to a cap of £15 a week.
Benefit will be paid direct to customers and it is their responsibility to pay the landlord on time.
Rates for different sized properties will be set each month and published on the Aberdeen City Council website, making it easier for people to work out how much help they are entitled to.
The changes will apply to those who make a new claim for housing benefit or have a break in their current claim or change their address in the privately rented sector on or after 7 April 2008.
