The Tolbooth
Details
The Tolbooth is one of the oldest buildings in Aberdeen and one of the best preserved 17th century Scottish gaols. The museum houses exciting re-constructions, models, displays and interactive exhibits which illustrate the history and development of crime and punishment and of the city of Aberdeen.
The Museum is open seasonally (over part of the summer period) to the general public although access can normally be granted for school and community groups at all other times.
Due to the nature of the building, The Tolbooth has very limited access for visitors with mobility difficulties. As only the entrance hall is accessible, a video presentation of the building is available on request.
