Publication of Hygiene Information (Food Hygiene Information Scheme)
Food Hygiene Information Scheme
A new scheme has been launched to allow Scottish consumers to see how well food businesses in their area have fared in hygiene inspections.
The Food Hygiene Information Scheme is being run in Perth and parts of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Fife and Renfrewshire, and applies to all premises supplying food to the public in those areas. It was developed and implemented in Scotland by the Food Standards Agency Scotland with the support of consumer organisations, industry and local authorities. Around 3,000 establishments are participating in the pilot and from today they will be asked to display certificates prominently on the door or window of their premises, showing how well they did in their last hygiene inspection.
Aberdeen City Council has published the most recent food hygiene inspection reports of the businesses involved in the initiative on this website. These certificates, based on current inspection records say “Pass” or “Improvement Required”. An “Awaiting Inspection” certificate is available for new businesses.
View Inspection Outcomes
A new web application is now available that allows consumers the ability to browse food outlet businesses and discover the outcome of the latest hygiene inspection for each premises. The information in the reports is correct as of 4th April 2007.
Please see the link 'Scores On The Doors - View Inspection Outcomes' to the right.
You can search by business name, address, type, outcome, and inspection date. After entering criteria and clicking on the Search button, you will see a list of all food outlet premises that match the criteria given. The results are paged, so at the end of the list you will see typical options for going to the first, previous, next or last page, or to a specific page number. The entry in the list for each premises may have two links shown in the rightmost column. If you see a link called 'Report', clicking it will display a copy of the most recent inspection report. If you see a link called 'Map', clicking it will display a map of the location of the premises. The map will appear in a new window.
What the results mean:
A Pass indicates that the business broadly meets the legal requirements. These requirements include the conditions found and the management procedures in place for providing safe food. Where a business fails to meet these requirements, it is issued with an Improvement Required certificate.
A very small number of premises may be registered as food businesses although it is unlikely that customers will view them as food premises, for example a hairdresser who provides coffee and snacks to customers. The assessment for such premises will have concluded that the food safety risk is negligible and they are classified as Exempt Premises. In such cases (and only with the agreement of the business), a certificate will not be issued and the information shown on this website will indicate that the business is currently exempt from the scheme.
Where a business has not yet been inspected, usually a new business, it will be issued with a temporary certificate advising consumers that it is Awaiting inspection. Premises will also require to be re-inspected where they have changed ownership.
