Big Plus: reading, writing and using numbers (Adult Literacies)
To get on with our everyday lives we all need to read, write and use numbers. More and more we need to get to grips with computers too.
Adult Learning offers free learning opportunities for anyone who wants to upgrade their skills to:
- Go for a better job
- Help children with homework
- Get into learning
We also provide help for people who need to learn everyday English as an additional language.
Courses are also run for adults who need additional support for learning.
Learning takes place all over Aberdeen in small groups or on your own at a time that suits you. You can start at any time of the year.
From time to time, Adult Learning offers free training opportunities for anyone interested in volunteer literacies tutoring. If you feel that this is an area you would like to become involved in, please call 01224 497150.
Family Learning Team
The Family Learning Team work in partnership with schools, to offer opportunities for parents/carers to become more involved in their childrens learning and encourage them to value the support they give their children on a day-to-day basis in their homes and communities.
The team works in eight primary schools in Aberdeen including: Bramblebrae, Smithfield, Kittybrewster, Donbank, St Machar, Sunnybank, Tullos and Walker Road. These schools also have a dedicated Home/School Teacher within them who works with parent/carers and children to encourage parental involvement in childrens learning.
The Family Learning Team can provide parents/carers with help and support in the following ways:
- Find out more about their childrens education.
- Help their child with their reading, writing and number work.
- Build stronger links with schools.
- Enhance their own literacy and numeracy skills.
- Build their confidence to pursue further learning opportunities and/or employment.
- Have fun!
